We believe that making and experiencing art is for everyone.

Our mission is to spark creativity and inspiration in people’s everyday lives. As a part of our creative community, we want to thank you for being a champion of creativity and supporting free and accessible art opportunities.

As you explore our Impact Report, we hope you are reminded of your special experiences at the art park, and hopefully learn about some new programs. As we are looking towards 2022 and finding our home in the new normal, we are thrilled to have you by our sides as allies and champions of a more creative community.

Kind Regards,

Susan Krischel, Alex Bryant, Joe Vena, Kathryn Wingate, Danielle Bricker, & Juliet Brown

MAKING
ART

ART MAKING IS COMMUNITY BUILDING

In 2021, we were honored to welcome 18 scholarship students to our Creature Builder Collective Summer camps.

We have built strong partnerships with International Neighbors, Boys & Girls Club, and more community organizations with a bevy of creative students in need.

The more scholarships we can offer, the better!

We hosted 18 young artmakers in our Summer camp courses at no cost where they wrote, directed, sculpted, shot, and edited the short film, Delphine in the Underworld
ART MAKING IS A HUMAN RIGHT

Have you experienced art-making in the art park? Thursdays through Saturdays we hosted Free Art-Making with watercolors, paint sticks, chalk, and more in our Outside Art Room art kits.

Over 5,000 of you have sketched your best friend, doodled your dreams, chalked what you want to be when you grow up and we are here for it!

In 2022, we want to keep expanding access to these experiences by bringing art-making directly to organizations, schools, and community centers throughout Charlottesville and Central Virginia.

INVESTING IN OUR CREATIVE COMMUNITY

Exposure won't pay your rent. That's why, since becoming a 501 (c) 3 Nonprofit in 2019, we have invested $350,786 into our creative community.

2021 also saw the inaugural Charlottesville Arts Excursion,  spearheaded by Ix to present a more unified Creative Community in Charlottesville. The $20,000 campaign saw thousands of visitors explore our rich visual art community.

WE HAD A LOT OF HELP

A project this large was something we needed help with. That's why we partnered with 12 new artists who designed and created everything from new projections, new soundscapes, new scentscapes, and even a thrilling new narrative that ties the rooms together and expands on the mythology of the Looking Glass.

IMMERSIVE art

WE HAD A LOT OF TIME ON OUR HANDS

In 2021, like many others, we took on a renovation project—doubling the size of our existing immersive art space to over 6,000 square feet. The Dripstone Cave opened in September and welcomes visitors with kaleidoscopic minerals, new creatures and plants, and the Grotto—an art bar where you can grab a craft cocktail, art-making kit, or even better—both!

And we're not done yet! Stay tuned to see what new giant is growing in Borogrove Forest.
